Welcome to Dale's Model World. I'm Dale Howlett and I have just finished a BA in Model Design and Special Effects, specialising in the areas of marine and architectural. I particularly like to work on scale radio controlled or static model boats.
Experience in making models for a variety of purposes from bait boats used by anglers to highly detailed, radio controlled narrow boats in scales from 1:12th to 1:72nd scale. I also design and make model railway buildings to fit specifications outlined by clients.
Architectural models, built to the architect’s AutoCAD drawing or artist’s impressions, are also an area I have experience in. I spent time working within an architectural model making company, Flic Models, where I learnt a lot about paint techniques, health and safety and working within specific time frames. I was also trained in AutoCAD which I now use to design and plan my models.
Having always had an interest in model making, particularly narrow boats, I became a member of Anglia Marine Model Club where I learnt a lot about making model boats, from different construction methods to the materials to use for better results. I have also spent time working at a narrow boat yard re-spraying the full-size hire boats.
My work is, and has been, exhibited at various boat shows around the country including the International Model Boat Show at Warwick and I was the youngest ever exhibitor at Crick Boat Show and Braunston Stop House. I was featured with my models in several series of Carlton TV's Waterworld. |
